In the event that alcohol is passed through the self scan till, a light flashes whereupon an experienced operator will attend at the till. If that operator believes that the person seeking to purchase alcohol appears to be under 25, he will seek ID. If appropriate ID is not forthcoming, the sale will be refused. If the sale is permitted to proceed, the operator will release the sale with a key fob. All operators manning the self scan tills are experienced and fully trained in alcohol sales and have received additional training with regard to self scan tills.
